A new way, for a better life.

The Family Wellbeing Program (FWP) is a new group program for men who engage in family and domestic violence.

FWP is different because it is a trauma-focused behaviour change program which recognises that cruelty is the outcome of unresolved abuse and trauma.

The FWP Goals and Objectives

The goal of the FWP is the safety of women and children impacted by family and domestic violence. Participants are guided through experiential and psychoeducational processes to develop:

  1. accountability for the impact of their behaviour on others.
  2. become responsible for their own healing and repairing the harm done.
  3. skills to build healthy relationships free from cruelty, abuse and violence.

FWP adheres to the Queensland Government minimum standard of service delivery as set out by the Domestic and family violence services: Practice principles and standards and guidance (Practice Standards, Dept of Child Safety, Youth and Women, July 2020).

Program Specifics

The program guarantees a group of no more than 10 participants. Rolling intake and currently no waiting time. Our fees cover program development, materials and overheads as well as paying our facilitators.

As we are not government funded we ask clients to pay a fee, however in order to maximise access of our program we means test payment. Please reach out with any questions you have.

The program occurs over 16 weeks and covers topics including: the River of Cruelty, the change process, trauma and emotions, core beliefs and behaviour, building health relationships, impacts of my abuse on others, managing conflict, respectful communication and relapse prevention.

FWP facilitators are members of SPEAQ (Services and Practitioners for the Elimination of Abuse Queensland) and are registered practitioners with their respective professional bodies.
